Danny Agan spent nearly 30 years with the Atlanta Police Department, before retiring in 2003. He was best known for his expertise and tenacious investigative efforts on some of Atlanta’s toughest homicide cases. Danny was personally involved in more than 800 murder investigations and rose through the ranks to become Commander of the Homicide Squad. With Danny as their leader, he helped elevate the unit’s professionalism and boosted their public image by creating the “Hat Squad” a term that is still used today which refers to the fedora hats worn by the detectives.
Over the years, Danny became known as the “media darling” of Atlanta, often the familiar face at a crime scene, delivering the department’s message to television cameras and reporters. Danny’s proactive approach to media relations translated into positive results for the police department and the city. It also helped the “Hat Squad” maintain clear-rates above the national average.
A POST Certified instructor since 1987, Danny has taught numerous courses on criminal investigation, case management, crime scene control, forensic evidence collection, and ethics. He also created and conducted a 40 hour course for Homicide Investigators.
Danny Agan is currently the in-house investigator at a Georgia based law firm. His experience in successfully conducting on-going high profile investigations while satisfying the media’s demands, combined with his experience as a police instructor make him ideal for A-Block’s training department.
